Meet UConn’s MFA Studio Art Class of 2027. Working in a broad range of art making, the class features:
Dakota Halliburton is from Austin, Texas. She pursued a BFA in Fine Art photography, a minor in Imaging Systems, and immersion in Museum Studies from Rochester Institute of Technology. She is also a deaf photographer and mixed-media artist who uses a variety of mediums to recollect memories about her family and understanding the beauty of living.
Rosely Htoo is an artist based in New York State. She received an AS from Mohawk Valley Community College and a BFA from Syracuse University. Her multi-dimensional approach to art includes photography, videography, and installation, which allow her to express her unique perspective and explore the complexities of the human condition. Her art captures the timeless and universal themes of human experience, inviting viewers to engage in a personal exploration of the deeper meaning of life.
Joshua Newbend is an artist from the Deep South exploring relationships of growth and decay within nature and society. His work questions our connection to the unseen and overlooked parts of the world, represented through primarily sculptural and installation-based modes of making.
Lindsey Potoff is a printmaker whose work investigates solitude, memory, change, and time. Her etchings use narrative within both urban and rural landscapes to examine the ways people connect to each other, understand themselves within nature, and search for warmth.
Shuning Wang, an illustrator and artist, delves into the theme of impermanence, capturing fleeting moments to reveal the eternal essence of the present. Influenced by diverse cultural perspectives and guided by mindful living, she draws inspiration from the ancient wisdom of her cultural roots, using radiant tones and ethereal contours to illuminate the healing moments of everyday life. She fosters her profound connection with the world through these evocative expressions and warm insights in her visual creation.
UConn’s MFA Studio Art program is a fully funded three-year graduate program which supports a broad range of art making including painting/drawing, photography/video, printmaking, and sculpture/ceramics with an international faculty and superior and generous facilities in a rural environment centrally located in Southern New England for easy day trips to New York, Boston, Providence, Hartford, and New Haven. The program culminates with an exhibition in a Northeast gallery. and a thesis exhibition in UConn’s William Benton Museum of Art.

The MFA in Studio Art requires the completion of the University of Connecticut Graduate School application and the submission of the creative portfolio through the UConn Graduate SlideRoom.
