Just before the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals on April 29 in Eden Gardens, the famous Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan expressed his concern for the well-being of Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant, who is the captain of Delhi Capitals, suffered multiple injuries in a car accident near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, in 2022.

Due to this accident, Pant was out of action, and this IPL season is the first match series that he has played since he recovered. Delhi Capitals is owned by GMR Group and JSW Sports, while Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and her spouse Jay Mehta own Kolkata Knight Riders.
A video was shared by Kolkata Knight Riders before their match against Delhi Capitals. In the clip, Shah Rukh Khan described the accident as “horrifying,” recalling his reaction upon seeing the footage of Pant’s damaged car.
He mentioned how, at that time, the severity of Pant’s injuries was unknown, causing great worry and concern for him and the team,
“That was horrifying. I saw that video (of his car). It was horrifying! Because we didn’t know then, what was the result of that accident. So, you get the worst feelings. To me, these boys are like my own sons. I have youngsters in my team as well. I hoped he wasn’t injured badly, and a sportsman getting injured is a double jeopardy. I wish him all the best. I hope his knee gets fully recovered soon. In the last game, when I met him, I was telling him don’t get up, it must be hurting. I was hugging him and asking are you well? I had not seen him before that, post the accident. I am really happy that he’s back, playing well and I hope he keeps on playing well,” the actor stated in the video.
Shah Rukh Khan also emphasized the bond he shares with the players, considering them as his own sons, and expressed relief that Pant’s injuries were not more severe. He wished Pant a speedy recovery, particularly hoping for the full recovery of his knee. The actor also talked about his recent encounter with Pant, where he advised him to take care of himself and not rush his recovery process.
Earlier in the IPL 2024 season, Shah Rukh and Pant had met at Vizag. After Kolkata Knight Rider’s victory over Delhi Capitals, Shah Rukh congratulated the players, including Pant. Upon seeing the actor, Pant tried to stand up as a mark of respect, but Shah Rukh urged him to remain seated. The two shared a warm hug and exchanged words.
In the recent match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, Kolkata emerged victorious once again, defeating Delhi by seven wickets. They chased down the target of 154 runs with 21 balls to spare, securing a double victory over Delhi this season. The match was conducted in the home ground of Kolkata Knight Riders which is Eden Gardens.
The accident happened when the cricketer was going to Roorkee to meet his relatives. As per the police report, the accident happened because Pant fell asleep 1km ahead of Narsan towards Roorkee. His car collided with the divider, and he suffered multiple injuries on the back, forehead and leg. He was alone in his car at the time of the accident.
